Limited Edition Alta Langa DOCG

Since 1858, the Fontanafredda Estate & Winery has been instrumental to the growth and international awareness of Barolo, while championing sustainability and community engagement in the Langhe region of Piedmont. Under the lead of visionary entrepreneur, Oscar Farinetti, Fontanafredda has built a portfolio of wines that express the depth and diversity of the Langhe, produced from grapes that are farmed from organic and sustainably managed vineyards. Since the 2018 harvest, Fontanafredda is the largest certified organic winery in Piedmont. The Limited Edition Alta Langa DOCG is their expression of Italy’s most prestigious — and original — traditional-method sparkling wine, crafted with a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Langhe’s highest hilltops, aged 30 months on the lees. Alta Langa DOCG is Piedmont's prestige traditional-method sparkling appellation. Fontanafredda's Limited Edition is sourced from south and southeast-facing vineyards at 250–500 meters above sea level. Soils are white clay alternating with layers of sand and limey marl. Guyot-trained vines planted at 5,000 per hectare. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay harvested in late August through early September, transported in 20-kg crates.

Grapes are delicately crushed and the must transferred to temperature-controlled tanks for static decanting. Fermented in stainless steel at low temperatures (18–20°C/64–68°F). Rested on fine lees before a second fermentation is induced in the bottle. A full 30 months of lees aging follows — as required for Alta Langa DOCG Metodo Classico — before riddling, disgorgement, and the addition of liqueur d'expédition.
