Background

Taub Family Vineyards traces its roots back four generations–mere days after the repeal of Prohibition. Wine has always been at the heart of the family's story. Marc D. Taub, raised with a profound reverence for winemaking, inherited this passion from his grandfather Marty, a pivotal figure in the wine industry since the early 1930s and later, his father David. In 2013, Marc acquired Heritance Vintners in Napa Valley, now transformed as Taub Family Vineyards. With their namesake, Marc and his son Jake look to explore Napa's most dynamic sub-appellations and single vineyards to build their own storied cabernet house, curating wines from some of the Valley's most esteemed sites.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

The 2021 vintage was a redemption year for Napa growers and vintners alike. Following a wet start in January and February, the spring and summer saw largely mild and consistent temperatures with veyr few significant heat spikes. This allowed for even ripening and longer hang time, promoting optimal flavor development while maintaining freshness and acidity.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at night, cluster sorted and destemmed followed by optical berry sorting. Extended cold maceration, stainless steel fermentation with pumpovers, drain/press directly to barrel towards the end of harvest, followed by malolactic with no racking until bottling. the wine is then ages 19 months in 100% new French oak. It is bottled unfiltered.

Tasting Notes

The fruit is dark and broodingly rich. Thick layers of blackberry, black cherry, toffee and earthy tobacco framed within a foundation of firm, integrated tannin, and balanced power. Structured, age-worthy, and complex, the wine finishes on sustained savory notes of cardamom, clove, and freshly tilled earth.

Points

This huge wine does a good job of polishing the notorious Mount Veeder tannins but still needs time to mellow for ultimate enjoyment. Intense black and blue fruits get a good lift from acidity and massive amounts of fine-grained tannins. Drinkable now but best from 2030. -J.G.

Points

Dark and winey, this is laden with crushed açaí, boysenberry and blackberry fruit flavors that marry nicely with its sweet bay, licorice snap and apple wood notes. The sappy, intense, fruit-driven finish shows a nice buried cast iron spine to keep focus. Best from 2026 through 2036. 198 cases made. -J.M.
