Background

For well over 50 years, the Zingarelli family has dedicated itself to crafting fine wines and championing Chianti Classico DOCG. Italian film producer Italo Zingarelli established Rocca delle Macie in 1973, and the estate now totals 600 hectares across six properties in Tuscany. Led today by Italo's son Sergio, his wife Daniela, and their two children, Rocca delle Macie is one of Tuscany's leading wine estates, and Sergio's two terms as president of the Chianti Classico Growers Consortium reflect the family's ongoing commitment to the region. Rubizzo, labeled Toscana IGT, blends Sangiovese with a touch of Merlot for a brilliant ruby red, everyday red built for immediate, easy drinking. Vinified with advanced fermentation techniques that lock in fruit aromas and color, it rests in stainless steel and is ready to enjoy the spring after harvest, delivering the same family craftsmanship as the estate's more storied Chianti Classico wines in a lighter, more casual style.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

A long, cool vintage brought abundant, well-distributed rainfall in winter and spring, allowing timely vineyard work. A drier mid-August stretch briefly stressed the vines before rain returned, and alternating rain and sun through harvest called for careful defoliation and thinning. The result: a cool, long, productive vintage with moderate alcohol, yielding refined, fresh wines with fruit and floral aromas. Soils reflect Miocene deposits rich in clay and limestone.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified using modern fermentation techniques that preserve the freshness of the aromas and the vibrancy of the fruit. Rubizzo rests in stainless steel before spending three months in the bottle, arriving ready to drink each spring following the harvest. Designed to be enjoyed young, it shows its best qualities in the months right after release.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red with violet reflections. Intense aromas of ripe red fruit and violets lead to a pleasantly fresh, well-balanced palate with soft, approachable tannins.
