Bright, racy red berry and cherry fruit is nicely accented with anise and earthy nutmeg. A harmonious, balanced wine. Focused through the finish. Ready to drink now and over the next three years.

Weekend Wine
January 2006

Made from organically grown Sangiovese grapes, this opens with red berry, cooking spice and espresso aromas. The medium-bodied palate doles out wild cherry, vanilla and toast flavors, framed by fine-grained tannings and bright acidity.

Aromas of French oak, espresso and coconut lead the nose and follow through to the robust palate along with dried sour cherry, orange peel and clove.

Another bright and fruity Rosso di Montalcino with lemon rind and dried cherry aromas and flavors. Full body, tight tannins and a fresh finish. A beauty. Drink now.

The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino Banditella emerges from a single parcel on the property and see smaller oak than the regular Rosso. Succulent dark cherry, plum, cedar and tobacco are all given an extra kick of texture through aging in French oak. Drink this fleshy, radiant Rosso over the next few years.

February 2016

This red shows fine depth and harmony, beginning with fresh cherry fruit, accented by spice, leather and earth. Stays fresh and long on the firm finish. Drink now through 2020.

I have heard so much about the 2010 vintage in Montalcino. Many Brunello producers are saying that it is their best vintage ever. A wine with ripe strawberries and cherries with hints of cocoa. Full and chewy. Structured and stylish for a Rosso. Delicious now with lots of tension but better in 2013...

Wonderful single vineyard Rosso: ripely flavored, full bodied, moderately rich, and long on the finish, with modest tannin. It tastes of ripe fruit (red currant, blackberry, cherry) and oak (toast, caramel), with floral, peppery overtones. Aged 12+ months in French oak barrels and casks.

The cherry flavors lean toward the darker side, with black currant and oak spice accents. Powerful and dense, delivering ripe tannins and a long finish.

Flows across the palate with layers of dark red fruit, spices and French oak. The 2009 emphasizes fruit and volume from the oak in a racy style meant for drinking upon release. The Banditella is a selection made exclusively from Brunello-designated vineyards.

Plenty of cherry, strawberry and spice flavors here, backed by a vibrant structure. Tea leaf and tobacco accents resonate on the firm finish.

Aromatic, sporting floral, raspberry and cherry notes. This quickly turns dry, with tobacco and leather accents on the finish. Shows loads of character.

...complex, full bodied, and very ripely flavored; a wine with rich fruitiness (cassis, red currant, blackberry), and overtones of citrus, pepper, and new oak. Long, lightly tannic finish. Exceptional.
