Background
Principato, meaning Princely Realm or principality, refers to northeast Italys Tre Venezie, a region embracing the majesty of the snow-capped Dolomite Alps and the picturesque beauty of Italys romantic Lake District. For wine lovers the Tre Venezie is also a source of Principato; one of Italys most popular and affordable wines. Introduced in 1978, it has become a welcome and familiar feature of daily American family dining.
Vinification
The grapes are picked at peak maturity and undergo fermentation for 6-8 days under controlled temperatures in small stainless steel vats. The wine then is placed in larger oak barrels, where it rests on its lees until malolactic fermentation has occurred. The wine is refined in tank before bottling and release.
