Barolo DOCG Brunate

2017 Italy Piedmont
91 Points

Very reserved at the moment, but dig deep and there’s some good dried cherry and wild strawberry character, together with a hint of spice and herb. Medium-bodied, tight and tidy, though not very expressive for this top Barolo site. Should broaden out a bit in time. Try after 2022.

Barolo DOCG Briccolina

2017 Italy Piedmont
93 Points

Very ripe, balsamic-tainted red fruit and plum jam, colored by lots of dried petals, such as violets and roses. Full-bodied, round and very silky with fine, lightly firm tannins that have already begun to sink into the fruit on the palate. Long, almost plummy finish. Very gung-ho Barolo with lots going on and more to come. Drink from 2023.

Lots of spicy red-fruit character here. Very ripe fruit. Hints of cedro rind, roses and a tinge of black truffle. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine and tightly packed tannins. The complex fruit character endures through the long finish. Very Barolo. Very good. Hold at least until after 2022. This will age nicely.

Pinot Noir

2019 Argentina Mendoza
86 Points

Dusty red plum and currant aromas are easy to peg as Pinot Noir. A grainy-feeling palate with chewy tannins deals flavors of spiced cherry and raspberry, while this displays mild burn and a vague note of buttery oak on the finish.

Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Richly spiced aromas lead into a smooth, luxurious palate that sinks into flavors of vanilla, dried apricot and dried date. Adding water unlocks more vanilla and sweet spices like clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. This is a big, mouthfilling whiskey to sip with a cube of ice or consider as a dessert pairing.

Reserve Marselan

2017 Israel Upper Galilee
91 Points

This deep-violet-red-colored wine has aromas of raspberry preserves, lilac and pie crust. Deep-seated tannins seem strong at first, but acidity takes hold on the palate, with flavors of pomegranate, strawberry, black cherry and Mediterranean herbs. The finish is notable for a zippy splash of Seville orange.
