The Wemyss family has had a longstanding passion for malt whisky and their connections with the industry date back to the turn of the 19th century when John Haig (founder of Haig's) built his first distillery on Wemyss land. Even today barley from the Wemyss Estate is prized by many of the leading distillers, and Cameronbridge Distillery is located just a few miles from the castle itself. With this passion came the gradual realization that, even for the knowledgeable consumer, much of the malt whisky terminology can be confusing. Our range of handcrafted malts was conceived with the aim of making them more accessible and understandable. We use the taste and aromas of the individual whiskies to identify each bottling, rather than the distillery, so the consumer can more easily understand the style being purchased. Up to sixteen different single malt whiskies are expertly blended together before introducing the signature malts to create three distinct taste profiles under Charles Macleans guidance: 'Spicy' (Spice King), 'Peaty' (Peat Chimney) and 'Honeyed' (The Hive). The new 'Kiln Embers' is a smoky addition to the Wemyss line up, blended with double the amount of smoky Islay malt whisky than its sister whisky, Peat Chimney.


Kiln Embers is a limited-edition, blended malt that has been carefully crafted using a generous portion of peated Islay malts (two thirds), perfect for lovers of smoky whisky. Our blenders have used twice the amount of heavily peated malt whisky than in the Peat Chimney blended malt. Released in 2015 as a limited edition of only 12,000 bottles worldwide. Tasting Notes

Polished gold color. Snuffed smoke from smoldering stubble fields drifts over the aromas of salted lemons, sweet cure bacon and lemon barley water with herbal freshness of spearmint. Warm oats and orange peel are toasted over a bed of slowly dying embers and heathery peat while mingling with crispy pancetta and rosemary focaccia blackened at the edges. A wholesome fnisih with sweet smoke barreling around the palate. Enjoy neat or on the rocks.
