From our home in Fife, on Scotland’s East Coast, we tell the story of the elements that go into making our whisky, and of the people who make it. As we continue our journey as a young distillery, we’re committed to remain true to our Lowland home, our people and our independent spirit. We are proud to be one of only a few independent distilleries that are family-owned and operated within Scotland. Founder, William Wemyss and Production Director, Isabella Wemyss run Kingsbarns as a brother-sister partnership. Isabella is a well-respected and prominent female voice in the traditionally male-dominated whisky industry. Her background & talents lie in the finer details of maturation, quality control and blending. Kingsbarns is also proudly committed to sustainability, minimizing waste and respecting the planet’s natural resources. The entire site at Kingsbarns distillery and visitor center are powered by 100% green renewable energy. They also implement a circular distilling process, where the spent mash grain is used to feed local cattle, and the water drawn from the distillery's aquifer is naturally filtered through reed beds before returning to the land.


The Kingsbarns flavor profile is a signature blend of single malts that are produced with a light and fruity character in the typical Lowlands style in Fife, Scotland. The Barley we use has been locally grown in Fife for almost a thousand years – respectful of our area’s agricultural heritage. Our Water is filtered through 300-million-year-old sandstone, our distillery’s own aquifer provides the pure water for our whisky making. We have carefully chosen to use two strains of Yeast, to create the distillery’s fruity and light Lowland-style spirit.


Doocot (Pronounced ‘doo-ket’) is named after a traditional dovecot, a nesting shelter which housed doves and pigeons. Aged in ex-Bourbon & ex-STR (shaved, toasted & re-charred) Portuguese Red Wine casks chosen by Production Director, Isabella Wemyss. We follow a particularly long fermentation process of between 3 to 5 days to develop the fruity Lowland-style characteristics we’re looking for. Our copper distillation takes an extremely high cut point to ensure purity of flavor.

Tasting Notes

Full of sweet, fruity character, DOOCOT is light, intensely fruity, floral and complemented by a rich color.


An elegant and fruity whisky that was matured in bourbon barrels and Portuguese red wine casks that were shaved, toasted, and re-charred. The nose is a tropical vacation, with guava, mango, and bold pineapple blowing through a floral and slightl saline breeze. The palate follows suit with added heft from nots of tril mix and spice cake. As each sip fades, the whisky drifts off with piced orange and more tropical fruit. - S.E.
