BackgroundThe name Angry Bunch refers to the boldly flavored style produced from burly old-vine Zinfandel. The Code of the Angry Bunch ensures that only fully ripe and ready grapes bursting with flavor become part of any Angry Bunch Zin. This Zin is a blend of Mendocino Ranches surrounding the Russian River. The ancient bench lands provide deep, well-drained soils consisting of up-lifted marine sediment, alluvium, and metamorphic rock and ash. The vines are 40 to 60 years old and sustainably farmed.
VinificationGrape bunches are hand sorted, de-stemmed and crushed in stainless steel tanks. Native yeast kick starts the fermentation and is supplemented with Assmanshausen yeast. Grapes are pressed and put in barrel on full fermentation lees for malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 18 months in French (95%) and American Oak (5%), 25% new.
ColorDeep Ruby.
NoseIntense notes of berries, bramble, plum with hints of sage and lavender framed by notes of vanilla.
