Burgundy represents, for many, the epitome of world-class winemaking. Standing amongst the most historic Burgundian houses of this famed French region is Labouré-Roi. Established in 1832, this forward-thinking winery is today one of the appellation’s most successful and prolific producers with wines distributed to over thirty countries worldwide and annual sales revenues in excess of $70 million.

Located in Nuits-Saint-George, Labouré-Roi is committed to making world-class wine accessible to all. To that end, it currently works with an impressive one hundred growers in Burgundy, as well as in other winemaking regions of France, from regional appellations and the most celebrated villages, to superlative Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. Its flagship wines represent outstanding small production cuvèes from the villages of Meursault, Chablis, Pouilly-Fuissé, Montagny, Pommard, Nuits-Saint-George and Gevrey Chambertin.

Labouré-Roi’s most precious asset is Château Labouré-Roi, an 18-acre property located in Meursault in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. This estate produces Meursault premier cru Bouches Cheres, Meursault premier cru Poruzot, the monopole Meursault Clos de la Baronne (which produces both a red and white Meursault), and a fabulous Bourgogne Blanc, which could be considered to be declassified Meursault.

On each bottle of Labouré-Roi is the regal fleur-de-lys, the emblem of the French King Louis VII. While this house respects its remarkable heritage, it has embraced the future like few other Burgundian producers. Their winemaking facility is indeed one of the more technically-advanced within the region, with a cellaring capacity of 1,300 barrels. This supplements an impressive 16th century-era cellar, which is still used for storage and aging of select bottles.

Labouré-Roi has also recently implemented a number of progressive initiatives to help protect the environment. At its vineyards in Meursault, for example, the winery has adopted sustainable agricultural practices, and, in 2008, it joined the UNEP’s (United Nations Environment Programme) worldwide Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign – for select bottles of Labouré-Roi wine purchased, one tree will be planted to help boost depleting ecosystems around the world.

Labouré-Roi has received numerous awards and accolades throughout its storied history, including the Best White Wine of the World title at the 2009 International Wine Challenge in London for the 2007 vintage of Meursault Blanc Clos de la Baronne.
