Visiting
Grove Mill
GROVE MILL in Marlborough,
which debuted with the 1988 vintage, has earned a reputation for
producing wines that capture the full intensity
and character identified with New Zealand’s
largest and best-known wine region. Grove Mill’s
critically acclaimed style is marked by rich,
concentrated aromas and flavors balanced by a
fresh, lively acidity. Read more about Grove Mill
here.
Grove Mill welcomes visitors at its Cellar Door
year-round seven days a week for tastings and
tours. Special programs are available on a pre-booked
basis and include aroma demonstrations, blind
tastings and food and wine pairings. Adjacent
to the Cellar Door, Grove Mill has established
New Zealand’s first vine library, which
features a row of each of 12 different grape varieties.
Visitors can discover how each variety differs
in berry size, color and flavor, and taste the
grapes alongside the finished wines.
Environmentally-conscious Grove Mill coordinates
a rehabilitation program for its neighboring wetland area
and has planted more than 4,000 native grasses,
shrubs and trees over the past several years.
Just steps from the Cellar Door, the wetland is
home to various species of birds, ducks and native
frogs, including the Southern Bell frog that adorns
each Grove Mill label. Visitors are invited to
walk through this area and even enjoy a picnic
nearby.
Guests are also encouraged to stop in the Diversion
Gallery. Here, Grove Mill hosts exhibitions of
work from leading New Zealand artists; all works
are for sale.
If you plan to visit Blenheim, just a short drive
away, consider walking up Wither Hills for a stunning
view of the entire region. If it’s a clear
day, you’ll likely catch a glimpse of the
North Island, too.
