Santa Rita was founded in 1880 in the Maipo Valley around the area of Alto Jahuel by Mr.Domingo Fernández Concha.

From the end of the 19thst century until the mid 1970s, Santa Rita was brought under the new ownership of Mr. Vicente García Huidobro, father of the famous Chilean poet Vicente Huidobro Fernández. In 1980, Grupo Claro acquired the Santa Rita property, giving strong financial backing and introducing great technological improvements and techniques unknown in Chile’s wine industry during that time. At the end of the 1980s, a great expansion period for Santa Rita began, sustained by the great momentum experienced by its exports and excellent products; all of which obtained important awards and worldwide recognition.

The Santa Rita winery owns vineyards in Chile’s most exclusive winemaking valleys encompassing 1,000 hectares in the Maipo Valley, 320 hectares in the Casablanca Valley, 400 hectares in the Rapel Valley, 130 hectares in the Leyda Valley and 140 hectares in the Lontué Valley.

In 2006, Santa Rita acquired 600 additional hectares of land in the Limarí Valley and 1,200 hectares in Pumanque in the Rapel Valley, making Santa Rita the second largest land-owning winery in Chile.

With access to diverse climates and soils, Santa Rita is able to produce a wide variety of world-class wines showcasing the remarkable quality and versatility of Chile’s terroir. Over the past decade Santa Rita’s viticulturists have adopted a number of practices to enhance varietal characteristics which include: sustainable agriculture, better clone material, improved trellising and irrigation techniques, balanced vine viticulture, restricted yields, leaf and canopy management, later harvesting, individual block farming, and small-lot vinification. Through further research and innovation, Santa Rita will continue to explore and capture the many tastes and textures that are unique to Chile.

Santa Rita also hosts Casa Real Hotel, the magnificent estate house, once owned by Mr. Domingo Fernandez and was refurnished in 1996. Today the beautiful resort is the perfect get away for those who enjoy comfort and the tranquility of nature in a stunning ambiance. Visit www.santarita.com for room rates and reservations.

Postcard from SANTIAGO, CHILE
Santiago is one of the few capital cities in the world which has easy access both ski slopes and warm sandy beaches. It is in fact possible to visit the modern ski resorts of the picturesque Andean Mountain Range as well as the famous beach destination of Viña del Mar or picturesque Valparaiso, Chile's main port in one day. Numerous villages located in the countryside around Santiago invite the visitor to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility. Santiago was founded in 1541 by Spanish Conquistador Pedro de Valdivia at the Santa Lucia Hill in the city center, formerly known as “Huelen”. Today, the Plaza de Armas with its colorful gardens is very different to what it was many years ago but the buildings that surround it bring back many memories. The Metropolitan Cathedral, on the western side of the plaza, stands on the same spot where the first church in Santiago was once built; to the north are three important historical buildings: the Post Office, the National Museum of History and the Townhall of Santiago.
