DescriptionThe history of the Mazzei family is closely woven into Tuscany's winemaking history, as well as the regions rich political and cultural past. The extraordinary Fonterutoli estate in Chianti has been owned by the Mazzei family since 1435 and has passed down through 24 generations. The estate is led today by Lapo Mazzei and his sons, Francesco and Filippo. This dynamic family has carefully safeguarded the inherent beauty and rich heritage of Fonterutoli, while simultaneously implementing measures to ensure cutting-edge quality in the vineyards and cellars. With this outstanding Chianti Classico, the Mazzei family celebrates their notable ancestor Ser Lapo Mazzei (1350-1412), a winemaker from Carmignano who is considered the father of the Chianti name. Ser Lapo is the author of the first official document mentioning Chianti wine (December 16th, 1398).
VinificationThe Sangiovese and Merlot grapes undergo a temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks with 15- 18 days maceration. Both grapes are aged 12 months in small French oak barriques, followed by 4 months refinement in bottle.
