A PICK OF OUR FAVORITE ROSÉS FOR SPRING AND SUMMER

Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue After surviving a long winter plagued by floods, snowstorms and torrential rain, most of us are ready to welcome spring and the promise of a warm summer with wide open arms. It’s the perfect time of year to relax, savor and enjoy. Whether lounging by the pool, hosting a backyard BBQ or sitting on a picnic blanket, the ideal wine to share with friends and family in the sun is gloriously pink! Rosé wine is refreshing, light and highly versatile, enjoyable with a wide array of summer cuisine. Here are just a few of our favorites, all of which retail for less than $20:

Cape Bleue Rosé, the latest release from preeminent French winemaker Jean-Luc Colombo, is a harmonious blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise. Created in the gorgeous Côte Bleue vineyards of Provence overlooking the Mediterranean, this delicate pink wine entices with aromas of peach and roses, along with intriguing flavors of raspberries, cherries and a hint of black olive. Try with seafood, salads and fresh fruits or simply on its own.

Along the South of France coastline in Provence is the picturesque Mas de la Dame winery, producer of Rosé du Mas. Tender pink in color, and made from organically-grown grapes, this wine offers fresh aromas of strawberries, peaches and roses. Remy Pannier Rose d’Anjou from the Loire Valley is well-balanced, fruity and elegant to taste, with a bouquet infused with strawberries and cherries. Both wines are a perfect match for barbeque.

Planeta Rosé, from one of Sicily’s most important and influential wineries, is made from 100% Syrah. An intense, luminous pink, this wine is light, refreshing, silky and seductive — excellent as an aperitif or as a partner for light pasta dishes, fish and potato salad. Another Italian favorite is Belguardo Rosé, a Sangiovese / Syrah blend. This vibrant pink wine is highly aromatic, outstandingly crisp and intense in flavor.

From Spain, try Faustino V Rosado with its bewitching perfume and crisp, lively flavors suggestive of fresh mandarin oranges. This deep pink wine is a perfect companion for lobster, crab and other shellfish dishes, as well as a variety of ethnic cuisine. Finally, if pizza is your favorite fare, then you can’t go wrong with Portillo Rosé Malbec. Delicate aromas of roses and red fruits lead to a bright, refreshing mouthfeel in this Argentinean wine from Mendoza.
