November 7, 2012 - This year’s CAVIT GOURMET PIZZA CLASSIC® was held in New York City at Bon Appétit magazine’s kitchen and was a close competition between three outstanding, homespun recipes. Denver, CO resident Mary Souchek was this year’s grand prize winner of the prestigious title of “America’s Best Gourmet Pizza” along with an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Italy, including a VIP tour of the Cavit winery in Trentino.
Ms. Souchek’s Bacon, Goat Cheese, Poblano Pizza with Fig Wine Sauce impressed the panel of three expert judges (Chef Jim Lahey, owner, Sullivan Street Bakery, Bon Appétit’s Chef de Cuisine Mary Nolan and Bon Appétit Associate Publisher Jennifer McCormick) due to the pizza’s delicious flavor combination, and also because of the uniqueness and creativity of her homemade recipe. Ms. Souchek’s recipe, included a diverse arrangement of Poblano chilies, hardwood smoked bacon, goat cheese and arugula, culminating in the winning pizza pie.
The Cavit Gourmet Pizza Classic® is a national annual event sponsored by Cavit Collection® wines. The Cavit winery, located in Trentino, Italy, is the source of America’s #1 Pinot Grigio and #1 Italian wine.*
