Burgundy represents, for many, the epitome of world-class winemaking. Standing amongst the most historic Burgundian houses of this famed French region is Labouré-Roi. Established in 1832, this forward-thinking winery is today one of the appellation’s most successful and prolific producers with wines distributed to over thirty countries worldwide and annual sales revenues in excess of $70 million.

Labouré-Roi’s winemaking facility is indeed one of the more technically-advanced within the region, with a cellaring capacity of 1,300 barrels. This supplements an impressive 16th century cellar, which is still used for storage and aging of select bottles. Located in Nuits-Saint-George, Labouré-Roi has long been committed to making world-class wine accessible to all. To that end, it currently works with an impressive one hundred growers throughout nearly every major winemaking region of France, from regional appellations and the most celebrated Burgundy villages, to superlative Premier and Grand Cru vineyards.

Beaujolais Nouveau is released the third Thursday of November every year (one week before Thanksgiving). It represents a taste and celebration of the new harvest!

Production Area
Cultivated from 50-year-old vines located in the village of Denicé. A very sunny spring with no destructive frost helped develop strong vines this vintage. The month of June was very warm, and the dry summer, without major storms, generated small berry grapes, which resulted in a limited production. The harvest started at the end of August, under sunny conditions.

Grape Varieties
100% Gamay

Vinification
After a harsh winter, the vines began to open around April 15th with the output of grapes lower than last year. After a warm April, there was a cold and rainy May that delayed flowering until almost the 29th of May and even later in some parts due to a rainy, cold June. July was hot and sunny. Mild hail storms hit but with no damage. August weather alternated between cold/rain to sunny/hot days. Some clusters were removed that showed signs of rot to maintain the health of the others, a laborious but vital process. The harvest started under sunny conditions on September 14th but some plots were harvested almost two weeks later as a result of the varied weather conditions this season. The grapes were vinified with semi-carbonic fermentation with 7-days maceration. Malolactic fermentation followed quickly to help to reduce the acidity and increase the roundness of the wine. Nouveau is bottled shortly after.
