Shows terrific balance between the ripe cherry and currant fruit, accented by cinnamon, almond, leather and earthy components. Firmly structured, this reveals its potential on the long finish.

A delicious wine with a tobacco, dark-tea and dried-fruit character. Balsamic and hints of bitter wood, too. Medium to full body, juicy fruit and a savory finish. Drink now.

A compact, tar-accented style, with blackberry, plum, iron and tobacco flavors. Give this time to resolve the dense structure. Features a core of sweet fruit and the finish shows promise.

Made with Sangiovese and 5% Merlot, this offers aromas of red-skinned berry, forest floor and a whiff of cedar. The structured palate offers dried black charry, clove, licorice and mocha flavors framed in firm, fine-grained tannins.

Powerful and brooding, with black cherry, blackberry and plum fruit shaded by tasty oak. Earth, mineral and spice flavors ride out through the lingering finish as the tannins build. Impressive, even though this doesn't shout Chianti Classico. Best from 2018 through 2028.

This is a tight and fruity Chianti Classico with dried cherry and walnut aromas and flavors. Some tile and spice too. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Give it a year to open up.

Made of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot, this elegant, structured wine opens with spicy red berry and underbrush notes with a hint of toast. The firm palate offers dried black cherry, clove and mocha flavors, framed by assertive but polished tannins.

Last year, this wine was a Riserva (now it is a Gran Selezione). The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva di Fizzano shows ample fullness and ripeness with dark cherry and spice aromas that are both compelling and generous. This wine shows a good sense of lightness and balance. It is easy to drink and approachable, but it also offers bigger structure to pair with succulent meat dishes.

Aromas of woodland berry, forest floor, spice and a toasted note lead the nose of this blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot. This elegantly structured palate offers dried black cherry, licorice, clove and espresso alongside tightly knit but polished tannins. Drink 2017-2027.

This red starts out rich and smooth, delivering black cherry and blackberry notes that are chafed by the firm, dry tannins. Shows balance overall, but needs time or food. Best from 2017 through 2025.

The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva di Fizzano also sees small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at the back of bright Sangiovese. This expression delivers extra weight and concentration with savory notes of dark spice, tobacco, wet earth, pressed violets and forest berry. Oak renderings add to the wine's powerful finish.

Underbrush, spice and plum aromas lead the nose on this blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The smooth palate delivers a core of juicy black cherry accented with licorice and espresso. Polished and round, this is already drinking well, but can age at least a few more years.

An elegant version, with cherry, raspberry and floral flavors supported by refined tannins. This is harmonious and long, with a mouthwatering finish. Should be better in a year or two. Best from 2015 through 2025.

February 2014

Pleasantly leafy aroma with tomato, forest floor and blackcurrant. An attractive wine that drinks well, with a satisfying, complete, ripe, toasty palate.

Decanter
May 2013

Made in a very respectable Chianti Classico style, the wine delivers freshness, with tart berry notes and a bright, streamlined feel. Medallions of veal, grilled sausage or roast chicken would all pair nicely with this Sangiovese-based wine (with small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot).

A pure, cherry-, tobacco- and earth-tinged red, showing fine ripeness and dense texture. This is underscored by fine yet solid tannins and vibrant acidity, with a long, harmonious finish.

The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva di Fizzano boasts significant depth and sheer power. Black cherries, licorice, leather and mint are some of the notes that emerge from this intense Riserva. The French oak is quite prominent and is felt in the wine's tannins and heft...Smoke, leather, licorice and a host of other dark aromas and flavors wrap around the muscular finish.

With its inky concentration, rich extraction and ripe aromas of blackberry pie and cherry preserves, fine craftsmanship is evident. Soft veins of spice and chocolate weave elegantly throughout.

A firm, taut style, with cherry and tobacco flavors married to dusty tannins. There's a lingering aftertaste of fruit and mineral.

Riserva di Fizzano is always an impressive wine, and the 2007 vintage has produced an especially generous, soft and rich bottling. It delivers aromas of bright cherry, soft spice, chocolate, pipe tobacco and a pretty flower accent at the back. It would pair with pork roasted with fennel seed and garlic.

Plush, fruit-forward and soft, Riserva di Fizzano shows a modern, confident style. The wine's appearance already shows darker hues of aging and the bouquet is characterized by dark fruit, leather and spice.
