Woodland berry, crushed mint and pressed rose aromas lift out of the glass. Firmly structured but also boasting finesse, the focused palate presents red cherry, raspberry, clove and a hint of chopped herb framed in taut, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity.

Fragrant and structured, this offers enticing scents of rose, violet, menthol, underbrush and a whiff of leather. The juicy palate offers layers of crushed raspberry, fleshy black cherry, cinnamon, clove, tobacco and a hint of anise alongside velvety tannins. It’s already accessible. Drink through 2022.

Rose, violet, red berry, cake spice and aniseed are some of the aromas you?ll find on this delicious Barolo. On the balanced palate, notes of tobacco, licorice, clove and dried herb accent the juicy cherry-berry core. Ripe, firm tannins and fresh acidity provide structure.

A rich, round style, boasting cherry, berry, cedar and licorice flavors. Packed with sweet fruit, this is dense, with dusty tannins clinging to the long finish.

Bright and aromatic with fresh flowers, dried berry and citrus character. Full body, firm tannins and a racy and beautiful finish. So much going on here. Why wait? Drink now or hold.

Dense and chewy, this red evokes cherry, tar, spice, earth and underbrush flavors. Stiff and drying on the finish now, yet has fine length and a balanced feel.

The 2010 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d?Alba opens to a darkly saturated color and shows pretty highlight of wild cherry, cassis, black truffle, cola and menthol herb...The wine is extremely focused and bright with the heft and structure that is common to Serralunga d?Alba.

The 2009 Barolo shows the bold and heavier footprint of Serralunga d?Alba, the production zone known for the biggest and most structured expressions of Nebbiolo. Dark, brooding and elegant, the wine presents a full frame and compact composition. It delivers solid notes of red fruit, plum, spice and leather in a swift and confident manner.

There?s a hard, iron edge to this red, softened somewhat by ripe cherry and strawberry flavors. Licorice and earth accents chime in as this unfolds to the long finish.

A little lean but some attractive berry and hazelnut character. Medium to full body, with medium chewy tannins and a bright finish. Drink or hold.

Fontanafredda?s 2008 Barolo Serralunga wraps around the palate with serious intensity and muscle. This is pure Serralunga in its dark fruit, iron, tar and scorched earth. Powerful tannins frame the incisive, long finish. I see Fontanafredda?s straight Barolo as an excellent restaurant wine, despite its considerable power and sheer exuberance. Overall, this is an impressive showing from Fontanafredda...

Thanks to new ownership and recent dynamic changes, the historic Fontanafredda estate is poised to bring us many beautiful surprises in the future. This gorgeous Nebbiolo from the opulent 2007 vintage delivers delicate floral aromas of red rose and violet in front of espresso, chocolate, cola and black cherry.

Fontanafredda?s 2007 Barolo from its vineyards in Serralunga d?Alba, one of the communes that comprise the Barolo DOCG, is a deceptive wine. Surprisingly approachable initially--perhaps the nature of the vintage--the tannins and structure become readily apparent in the finish. The tannins, however, do not obliterate the elegance and overall class of the wine, allowing the lovely combination of pure fruit and earthy flavors to shine. The classic ?tar and roses? description of Barolo is apt here. It?s a young wine with a bright future.

Dark and brooding, offering tar, black cherry and spice notes, this richly textured red has dense, ripe tannins to match. The black cherry theme lingers on the finish.

Ripe and smoky, delivering plum, black cherry, spice and mineral elements that bind with the firm structure. This is dense and chewy, with a slightly dry finish. There is plenty of fruit here, so be patient.
