Looking at the Cornas releases, which they’re moving to bottling just a touch earlier than they have in the past, the 2015 Cornas Terres Brûlées sees malolactic fermentation in barrel and is aged in 10% new French oak. It’s a ripe, nicely concentrated, forward and elegant red that has a kiss of oak in its black raspberry, toasted spice, cassis and exotic floral-based bouquet. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, fruit forward and nicely balanced, give it a year or two to integrate its oak and enjoy bottles through 2025.

Inky ruby. Smoke-accented scents of blueberry, mocha and black olive are sharpened by a zesty mineral quality. Smooth, focused and gently warm, showing a light touch to the fresh dark berry, black pepper and violet pastille flavors. Silky, slow-building tannins add shape to the smoke-accented finish, which echoes the olive note. The fruit that would normally go into Colombo’s Marquee Vallon de Aigle bottling wound up in here this vintage.

Vivid purple. Candied cherry, cassis and olive paste on the highly perfumed nose. Lush, round and sweet, offering juicy, pepper-laced dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. A smoky note comes up on the finish, which is firmed by smooth, nicely integrated tannins.

Dried spices, cracked pepper and roasted meat notes scream of Syrah and the Northern Rh?ne. It?s medium to full in body, but with fine tannins and bright acidity, making it remarkably easy to drink. Approachable now, it should still be drinking well through 2030.

Remarkably impressive. Although its hugely extracted, a deep pool of black, plummy juice, its also shapely, traced by ferrous minerality and firmed with powerful tannins. It comes off chewy and supple, spicy and smooth, a fascinating ? and delicious ? exercise in contradictions.

Juicy, focused and spicy, offering nicely concentrated cherry and raspberry flavors and a touch of finishing smokiness. A bitter cherry note lingers on the sappy, yet refreshingly brisk finish. This is showing a lot more energy than it did last year.

This is strong, with an impressive core of melted black licorice, dark plum, currant and maduro tobacco all laced together with a dark, loamy note. There a polished mouthfeel, but also brooding intensity.

Bright red. Spicy red berries on the nose, with complementary notes of dried flowers and baking spices. Fresh, focused raspberry and cherry flavors are a touch bitter and show a firm tannic edge. Sweet and deeper on the finish, with the floral note echoing. This would benefit from some air.

This is a rock-solid, textbook Cornas, with lots of crushed plum, currant, olive and tobacco notes backed by slightly burly but integrated tannins. The long finish is filled with chalk and olive. Best from 2010 through 2018.

Vivid ruby. Spicy black raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by fresh flowers and minerals. Graceful, finely etched dark berry flavors show surprising depth and power but no excess fat. Supple tannins add grip to the long, juicy finish. I like this wine's balance and focus.
