Estate-bottled BOTTEGA VINAIA is the outcome of a vision by Anselmo Martini, lead winemaker, at the widely recognized Cavit winery. Starting in the early 1990s, Martini sought to explore the optimum potential of a handful of extraordinary vineyards in northern Italy’s Trentino region that, year after year, consistently produce the highest quality grapes. This select group of family-farmed vineyards is the source of Bottega Vinaia, an exceptional line of artisan wines that reflects the authentic qualities of the Trentino terroir. Thanks to Martini’s passion and tireless drive, Bottega Vinaia has swiftly joined the ranks of Italy’s top-notch premium wine producers.

Production Area
On selected rocky-calcareous soil at mid-altitude in the Valle dei Laghi (Valley of Lakes), Lagrein finds the perfect growing conditions. With good sun exposure and aeration, the warm breeze from the Lake Garda keeps the berries dry, an important condition for a varietal that may have budding difficulties resulting from humidity.

Grape Varieties
100% Lagrein

Vinification
The “red” vinification of Lagrein (Dunkel in the local Germanic dialect) is conducted at a temperature of 80°-82°F, with a long maceration period on the lees in small stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, where the wine ages for about 12 months. It is then transferred into small oak casks to rest for six months until bottling.

Color
Intense ruby red

Bouquet
Complex, with strong scents of vanilla, violets and wild berries, tending to musk and burnt wood with aging

Taste
Well-structured and balanced, with a harmony between tannins and acidity that renders it soft and velvety with a persistent finish

Serving Suggestions
Serve at a cool room temperature with roasted red meats and other robust entrées
